 • Instructor Licensing •

AAPGAI are pleased to announce that we are now in a position to offer our members a route to become a licensed instructor, for those wishing to do so.

This enables our members to work with children and satisfy government organisations and companies who may state as a requirement that you hold a recognised License.

Although a very basic cover that comes with the above licence, it does not replace the need to the fully comprehensive insurance cover for those involved in professional activities. AAPGAI will therefore continue to offer our members a very comprehensive insurance cover that is included in our annual membership fee. This cover will not only include working with large groups at home as well as abroad, but will also include advice. No other angling insurance offers this facility.

You should now be aware from the recent correspondence sent out to all members that one of the requirements for all of this to take place is the necessity to provide proof of:

• (CRB) Criminal record disclosures (valid for 5 years from the date of issue)
• First Aid Certificates (valid for 3 years from the date of issue)
• Child Protection Awareness Training (valid for 5 years from the date of issue)

Photocopies of all of the above are required to provide proof of compliance with the rules of the Association. Please send to:

Clive Mitchelhill (AAPGAI Membership Secretary)

Carlisle,
Cumbria,
CA2 4AR

The committee are well aware of the additional time and effort involved with this process for all members. As such time will be given for members to comply with these rules and to attend the relevant courses. We therefore we propose to make the deadline for all photocopies to be submitted Sunday 6th April 2008 this will take in the AAPGAI assessment event at Kenmore where once again a Child Protection Course will be available for members to attend. Information regarding this facility will be posted prior to the event.

After this date when all photocopies have been received, AAPGAI members will be required to continually update their certificates and continue to provide proof of this to the committee by sending them to the address shown above.

This process is required to satisfy our insurers and to put in place the above safeguards. Continually updating our required certificates not only ensures that we are working in line with current procedures, but also sees us providing a professional and safe environment for the people we come into contact with in our capacity as instructors. As I’m sure you will all appreciate, this can only further maintain the credibility of our organisation.

First Aid & Child Protection Awareness Courses will be made available to members every year at the following AAPGAI events:

Child Protection Awareness (Spring Assessment weekend at Kenmore)
First Aid (AGM & pre-assessment weekend Caer Beris)

Information regarding these courses will be posted prior to the event.

If you prefer, First Aid Certification is also available through your nearest St John Ambulance courses; to find a course near you visit their website on http://www.sja.org.uk/sja/

For those of you who are without CRB disclosures, you can do one of two things:

1. Apply to me direct for the relevant forms,
2. Apply to SANA (Scottish Anglers National Association) for a coach/instructor license that includes within it a disclosure check.

The total cost of the Instructor License is £48.50 and this charge covers your license for the year., Once you have received the paperwork through the post you will need to provide the following evidence prior to receiving your license.

1. Recent Certificate from Disclosure Scotland (issued within the last six months) (the disclosure forms will be posted to you with your application)
2. Current First Aid Certification
3. Details of any Coaching activities
4. Appropriate Child Protection Awareness Training Certificate (This you can arrange yourself or alternatively our next AAPGAI course will be available at Kenmore April 2008 prior to the deadline for certificates as shown above)
5. Two passport size photographs of yourself
6. Annual Licence fee of £48.50 (Cheques Payable to SANA Ltd)
7. A Photocopy of your coaching and/or instructors certificates

Child protection courses can be found via the internet however, if you decide to take the SANA route and would rather wait until Kenmore April 2008 to do your child protection training, this is fine as long as you send for your application pack immediately following your attendance.

Licence application packs are available from:
