Ally Gowan
Alastair “Ally” Gowans is a full
time professional game angling instructor, writer,
photographer and consultant
who
runs regular fly fishing courses and demonstrates
fly casting in a number of countries and at various
shows in the UK.
Ally has accumulated a vast knowledge and experience of fly fishing for trout, salmon and other fishes during his career spanning 50 years.
He has landed several thousand salmon and a huge number of trout. Based in Pitlochry, Perthshire, Ally holds APGAI qualifications in all disciplines.

Ally has also invented a number of deadly and very famous flies including Ally’s Shrimps and Cascade. In addition to writing for “Fly Fishing and Fly Tying” Ally has contributed to “The Atlantic Salmon Journal”, “Trout and Salmon”, “The Atlantic Salmon Journal”, “Trofeo Pesca”, “Fish and Fly”, “The Field”, “The Scottish Field” and other publications including the “Angling in Tayside” guide book.
He is presently completing his first DVD entitled “Spey Casting Made Easy” that provides comprehensive instruction for Spey casting methods and much more.
